Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
This three-part series represented one of the most significant undertakings in recent EXHIBITOR history. Senior writer Charles Pappas spent months researching emerging technologies, vetting the laundry list of options down to nine that had unique applications to the exhibit and event industry, and then attempting to source multiple examples of these technologies in use at trade shows and/or live events (which was extremely difficult as many of these technologies were poised to BEGIN impacting the industry at the time the piece was published, were hugely expensive, and were not being widely used yet). Each of the installments went through nearly a half-dozen revisions, with the first draft being particularly time consuming as we knew it would serve as the template for the rest of the three-part series. Because our readers range from technophiles to total newbies when it comes to tech, Pappas faced the task of creating a piece that would be accessible to someone who hadn't heard of these technologies before, as well as someone who has kept up with tech trends and has some experience working with one or more of the technologies profiled. As such, we established a structure for the three technologies outlined in the first installment: What is it? How fast is it growing? How are marketers using it? Where can you find out more? In total, the series addressed nine different technologies, including biometrics, 3-D printing, and geofencing, but did so within the context of exhibits and events.
