Please describe the publication's mission and readership:
The ACHR NEWS has been the HVACR contractor's weekly newsmagazine since 1926. Our mission is to provide vital news and insights to the talented individuals who serve the nation's needs in the vital heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration markets. Our circulation is more than 30,000 HVACR contractors, engineers manufacturers, and distributors, and we strive to offer them the information they need to grow their businesses and serve their customers while complying with an ever-expanding array of state and federal regulations. This "hidden" industry is often out of sight and out of mind, yet heating, ventilation, and air conditioning are everywhere and are vital to humans' quality of life -- and in many cases even their survival. Refrigeration, meanwhile, keeps our food safe to eat and is integral in many important processes, such as research and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Our readers run the gamut from small "mom and pop" heating and air conditioning companies to Fortune 500 companies with global reaches.
Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
The cores of many major cities in the United States are experiencing a rebirth, and adaptive reuse is a cornerstone of that trend. Historic and beautiful old buildings are being preserved and repurposed for a new generation to use and enjoy, but the challenges associated with such repurposing can be tremendous. In this example, a historic bank building was being converted into downtown Cleveland's first new grocery store in decades -- an important milestone for enticing people to move back into the city. I followed the building's renovation with great interest (bank pun not intended), and when it came time for the refrigeration work to be done, I was on site with the contractor.
HVAC contractors in many cities are dealing with the challenges and opportunities presented by adaptive reuse projects, and the work done on this project by refrigeration contractor The Hattenbach Company provides an outstanding example and an inspiration to all those charged with overcoming those challenges and capitalizing on those opportunities.
