When the insider threat is the Commander in Chief
When it was revealed that former President Trump had taken confidential documents with him after leaving office, every CISO in the country understood the risk that presented. They deal with exiting employees taking sensitive information with them on a regular basis--one aspect of what's called an insider threat. Our columnist, Christopher Burgess, but the incident with President Trump into that context as a former CISO himself. As a former CIA analyst, he was also able to provide policy and process background that most CISOs might not be aware of. By raising the questions the DOJ were likely asking, he further makes the incident relatable to CSO's audience, as they would be quite similar to questions raised over mishandled documents they were tasked with protecting.
The Ukraine/Russia information war is forcing companies to choose a side
After Russia invaded Ukraine, both Ukraine and Russia made overt and covert attempts to influence information that was disseminated about the war. Whether to bow to that pressure put some companies at risk regardless of the decision they made. Christopher uses his background as a former CIA analyst to provide deeper context for what those risks might be. He points out that what seems like the best immediate decision could have long-term negative impact.
