TechTarget | Xtelligent Healthcare Media publishes original reporting on the healthcare industry, focusing on the digital transformation of the sector. Virtual Healthcare, a part of the Xtelligent Healthcare Media network, serves healthcare professionals in charge of digital healthcare efforts and programs, such as chief information officers, chief digital officers, telehealth program managers and clinical leaders.
The articles submitted are based on sessions and interviews conducted at the American Telemedicine Association's (ATA) annual Nexus conference in May 2024. The three-day event brought together virtual healthcare stakeholders from various parts of the industry.
The first article, "At ATA Nexus, stakeholders plan for the next phase of telehealth," offers a broad overview of various panel and keynote discussions at the event. Keeping in mind the critical concerns in the telehealth arena, I focused my coverage on longstanding challenges, such as licensure restrictions, and newer ones, such as the growing use of AI in the field and an explosive report on the efficacy of popular digital health tools. I attended numerous sessions over the three days before whittling the coverage down to the six focus areas.
The second article, "How stakeholders are preparing for a new era in digital healthcare," details how digital health companies and virtual-first care providers are navigating the rapidly evolving virtual healthcare landscape, where sky-high funding has given way to business failures. I spoke with four digital health executives about how they are strategizing to tackle the ongoing complexities and close competition.
The third article, "What OSF HealthCare considers when making digital health tech decisions," focused on a nonprofit health system's technology selection process. Today, technology selection and implementation can be especially challenging as health systems face a wide array of options but often have limited resources and a mandate to ensure patient safety. In this article, I spoke with OSF's digital health lead about how the health system balances competing priorities when deciding between various digital health tools and platforms.
Together, these articles aimed to provide digital healthcare leaders with insights into the themes and topics that were top-of-mind in the virtual care arena. The goal was to help these leaders with their challenges by offering information on how their peers are overcoming those same hurdles. Further, I aimed to provide readers with the key trends shaping virtual healthcare's future.
Following the rise of various virtual care modalities during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering digital healthcare was no longer a nice to have. Rather, these tools became a must-have. This has left healthcare providers and payers with critical decisions to make about how best to implement digital health technologies to boost patient care while reducing healthcare costs. The ATA conference in 2024 was a microcosm of this friction. My articles provide a view into emerging themes alongside the strategies that digital health stakeholders depend on to help them not only survive but thrive.
