In Australia, the law firm Maurice Blackburn worked with a creative agency to create photorealistic AI images to bring to life written evidence of 32 refugees held in off-shore detention centers. However, the project raises unsettling questions about AI and misinformation. As digital forensics expert Hany Farid states in the article: “In a world where anything can be manipulated, can anything be trusted?” This story delves into the ethical issues and includes interviews with the law firm, experts, and a refugee who was held at one of the detention centers.
