Description of the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
Callahan’s Credit Union Strategy & Performance is the industry’s only strategy-oriented periodical. The quarterly publication provides substantive coverage of topics that are top of mind with executives. It combines macroeconomic analysis with peer, state, and regional performance data to provide a 360-degree view of the modern credit union marketplace. But it doesn’t stop there. Taking into account the spirit of the cooperative movement, Strategy & Performance highlights best practices and lessons learned from across the industry to help readers propel their institution forward. To accommodate the life of a busy executive, Strategy & Performance blends rich visual elements with the written word, making every piece easily perusable, and the thoughtful interpretation of credit union success stories means content is relevant even after the quarter expires. Verified data and educated analysis infused with the credit union point of view makes Strategy & Performance a must-read executive resource for meeting strategic and financial goals.
Just as the invention of the airplane transformed transportation around the world, True Sky Federal Credit Union is transforming financial services in Oklahoma City.
Founded in 1946 by eight coworkers at the Civil Aeronautics Administration, today True Sky serves 57,000 members across 16 branches and, according to the credit union, the largest fleet of ITMs in the state. But even as True Sky nears the $1 billion-asset mark, it isn’t after growth for growth’s sake.
“We are trying to transform our credit union into a technology company with purpose,” says Julie Gamblin, True Sky’s chief administrative officer. “We’re trying to be more innovative. We have to change with the times.”
That change has come in the form of a 30-system technology refresh, new ways to engage employees at all levels, products and services that meet the needs of diverse communities, a business incubator that speaks to women and minority entrepreneurs, and a technology branch prototype that allows the credit union to reach into underserved markets.
“The work to advance our mission must evolve with the world around us,” says Daniel Garcia, True Sky’s senior director of multiculture strategy. “The global pandemic highlighted the financial vulnerability among underserved communities. It is time to be intentional in our efforts to provide affordable, accessible financial services to those who need it most.”
True Sky has set its sights on the horizon, and it’s taking Oklahoma City with it.
