By following vet Elizabeth Pearlman of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals as she investigates a dog fighting ring in New York state, the reader is granted an insider’s view of where science and the law intersect. Animal cruelty is a federal crime, and each state has its own set of applicable laws.
