The 2012 bankruptcy of the mega-law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf was the biggest legal business story of the past decade. As the 10-year anniversary approached, the Bloomberg Industry Group video team wanted to tell the full story of what happened. Dewey’s collapse was a cautionary tale with the potential to impact every lawyer and client of a large law firm. There was just one problem… in the years since, no one had heard from Steven Davis, Dewey’s criminally indicted leader. The Bloomberg Industry team was able to track down Davis and, over a series of conversations spanning months, convince him to trust us to tell the story. The team interviewed Davis in New York City for over three hours. His interview anchored a 20-minute documentary that told – for the first time – the full the story of Dewey’s rise and fall. Our subscribers and the wider legal and business industry responded. The video was viewed more than 17,000 times on Bloomberg Law’s YouTube channel alone – many more when you include distribution by Bloomberg LP.
