In the summer of 2022, NAIOP members and staff said farewell to longtime president and CEO Thomas J. Bisacquino, who retired after leading the organization for more than 30 years.

Development Managing Editor Trey Barrineau dug into the magazine's archives and interviewed more than a dozen past NAIOP leaders to produce a richly detailed profile of Bisacquino's remarkable career. The in-depth article not only outlined the CEO's impact on the association, but also served as an informative historical narrative of the massive changes that have swept the commercial real estate industry since the late 1980s.

"His extraordinary leadership has successfully steered NAIOP through not only the ups and downs of the commercial real estate market, but also natural disasters, 9/11 and a global pandemic," Development magazine Editor in Chief Jennifer LeFurgy wrote of Bisacquino in her "Note From the Editor" column in the Summer 2022 issue. "Over the past three decades, he grew NAIOP from a small trade association to one of the largest and most influential real estate organizations in North America."
