Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
A hallmark of the workers compensation industry is pain management and the industry has been at the forefront of combatting the opioid epidemic—although the scenario for treating injured workers has had its fair share of complications. Among the issues are alternative approaches to pain management, elevated addiction rates among workers in industries such as construction, where lingering musculoskeletal injuries are commonplace, and weaning “legacy claimant” patients who have been on higher doses of opioids for decades and are dependent on the drugs. Because the workers compensation industry benefits greatly from getting workers back on the job and healthy, stakeholders have been heavily engaged in solutions. Business Insurance prides itself on covering all the facets of a challenging ordeal for workers and employers, speaking insurers, physicians and others engaged with workers on the frontlines and those who have experienced drug dependency. Reporters have been tracking changes and trends, reporting on sensitive topics that aim to educate employers on what’s to come and how to manage roadblocks.
