American Nurse Today, the official peer-reviewed journal of the American Nurses Association, is read by a wide range of nurses—from new graduates to those with many years of experience. Our goal is to provide this diverse readership with succinct, practical, independent, evidence-based information they can use in their clinical practice and to enhance their careers.

Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:

Provision 5 of the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements includes a duty to self; promotion of personal health, safety, and well-being; and preservation of wholeness of character and integrity. American Nurse Today’s Healthy Nurse department directly addresses this provision by covering topics critical to nurse health and well-being. Topics recently covered include patient violence, gender bias, self-compassion, resilience, social media influence, and workplace bullying. The Healthy Nurse department also coincides with the ANA Enterprise Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation® initiative, which aims to “transform the health of the nation by improving the health of the nation’s 4 million registered nurses.” American Nurse Today is proud to contribute to this discussion in a department dedicated to nurse wellness.
