Advantages is a monthly trade publication targeted to distributor salespeople in the promotional products industry, which provides logoed items (T-shirts, pens, mugs and more) to support a company’s brand and marketing efforts. Our readers also advise companies on their marketing programs. We strive to be a comprehensive source of sales strategies and product trends through articles, regular departments and product showcases. The magazine is presented in an easy-to-read format to keep busy salespeople interested and informed.

Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:

This was a labor of love, literally! The idea was to try and incorporate one of the hottest promo items featured in the magazine onto the cover in a creative way. After several iterations I decided it would be cool to shape a USB cord around a map of the United States. I sat on the floor in my living one evening gently guiding and hammering a soft USB cord onto the outline of a map on foam core using a ball-peen hammer and tiny finishing nails. Afterward, I had it photographed and then applied a special font that resembled neon lighting to tie into the “plug-in” theme. I love the way it turned out!
