Banks file over a million suspicious activity reports (SARs) each year as part of their obligations to help law enforcement solve crimes with financial elements. This article draws on federal guidance, survey data and interviews with law enforcement professionals to provide technical tips on how to improve the quality of these SARs and make them more useful for law enforcement—helping them go from needles in a haystack to targeted and tactically relevant intelligence.
