First published in 1908, the ABA Banking Journal is the flagship magazine of the American Bankers Association. In both its bimonthly print editions and online at aba.com/BankingJournal, the magazine provides timely and sophisticated analysis, insight and inspiration for banks of all sizes. Jelena McWilliams brought an unusual personal story when she became FDIC chairman in 2018. As an immigrant from the former Yugoslavia who arrived in California with just $500 to her name, she worked her way through college and law school and rose to be one of the top U.S. banking regulators. This widely read profile illuminated McWilliams’ personal background but also informed the banking industry on the full scope of her aggressive policy agenda.
