Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
As all stories in EXHIBITOR, this went through a five-part design/review process. First, the design team met with the editorial department to discuss the piece, which in this case was a Q&A interview with social media expert Jason Falls. At this time, editorial outlined the piece, including the general focus, working titles, available imagery, primary takeaways, potential sidebars, etc.
Roughly one week later, the teams met again to review the designers’ sketches for the story. Art director Heidi Howe came up with the idea of illustrating Falls in a portrait style, but making him a bull. The inspiration for this was not only Jason's slightly bull-in-a-china-shop style, but also the fact that he is co-author of the book "No Bullshit Social Media: The All-Business, No-Hype Guide to Social Media Marketing." Editorial loved the concept, and design began working with illustrator Edel Rodriguez on initial sketches.
Approximately two weeks later, the first mock-up of the story was presented. Editorial and design met again to discuss each element, and particularly the opener, refining Edel's initial sketch.
The changes were incorporated into the second, more final mock-up, which was presented a week or so later. Editorial and design again met to discuss the layout and further polish Edel's sketch before she inked the final.
The third and final mock up represented all changes and discussions from the second mock-up review. Once finalized and approved by the editor and art director, final production began on the layout.
