Published 10 times a year, Hospitality Design magazine is the premier magazine for the hospitality design industry. It serves owners, operators, brands, purchasing agents, interior designers, and architects involved in the design of hotels, resorts, restaurants, bars/lounges, spas, and all other hospitality-related projects.

Hospitality Design magazine continues its 35-year-plus mission to publish innovative projects, inspiring products, the latest trends, development spotlights, event photos, and compelling interviews with some of the industry’s leading professionals. Aiming to be the ultimate connector of the hospitality design industry, the magazine also boasts a robust website with original content, creates the conference program for HD Expo, the industry’s largest and most preeminent tradeshow, and hosts multiple events a year—regional networking events such as CitySCENE; HD Summit, a think-tank with TED-like speakers; NextGen Forum, a conference that blends regular conference programming with inspiration speakers for the next generation of hospitality; the HD Awards, which annually honors the best products and projects of the year; and the Platinum Circle Gala, honoring industry leaders for their lifetime achievements.

Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:

We are a design magazine and take that very seriously in our pages. We give designers of hospitality spaces and their one-of-a-kind projects their due through the right balance of text and photos. We showcase large photos with white space acting as an important element of our overall design, drawing the reader to the project on the page. All members of our team work together, editorial with creative, ensuring photos and text interact with each other, creating a visual journey and connecting the reader to the overall story.

Our magazine is easy to navigate with clear headers, so readers know exactly what section they are in. Each has an opener with contents and page numbers laid out, clearly delineating the beginning and end. Captions identify photos, while providing even more information about what the reader is seeing. It's all in the details. We keep it simple but interesting and impactful.

We start each section on the righthand page to keep a rhythm throughout the magazine and help differentiate advertisements from editorial. Furthermore, our layouts are bold but inviting, innovative without being off-putting. Typeface is clean, and easy to read, drawing the readers in.

The outside also counts. In each issue we try to push the line with our covers. We keep it clean with a photo highlighting a property inside the pages, letting it shine against one or two cover lines. We tease our readers with the beautiful image that makes them anticipate what's inside.
