Please describe the publication's mission and readership:
TD magazine is published monthly by the Association for Talent Development. Our audience comprises highly educated talent development professionals and line managers working in all aspects of training and development. Driven by strong, influential content, TD’s aesthetic is sophisticated, clean and clever. Mixing high concept illustration with original photography, clever typographical treatments on features and, above all, a consistent visual brand and style, TD is a recognizable and highly valued magazine.
Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
This feature story covers common “myths, superstitions and misconceptions” that persist in the world of learning and workplace development. The editorial and design teams came together to brainstorm ways we could visual these common “plagues” to the TD profession. Our initial concepting brought up the many common superstitions or myths in popular culture. Our "a-ha moment” happened when we conceptualized compiling as many of those pop culture myths and superstitions into one image. We collaborated with the artists at Hit and Run because we thought their CGI style would really make this concept come to life. Our idea to build out a workplace inunated with superstitions and myths was becoming a reality on the page! Working with the artists, our senior art director focused on minimizing color so that the composition and all of the many components could really shine. The outcome was a clever, conceptual take on the topic, creating a spread that genuinely speaks to the aesthetic of the magazine overall.
