TD magazine is published monthly by the Association for Talent Development. Our audience comprises highly educated talent development professionals and line managers working in all aspects of training and development. Driven by strong, influential content, TD’s aesthetic is sophisticated, clean and clever. Mixing high concept illustration with original photography, clever typographical treatments on features and, above all, a consistent visual brand and style, TD is a recognizable and highly valued magazine.

Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:

This feature story discusses the not-so-subtle differences between the concepts of “discussion” and “dialogue” within the workplace learning and development setting. When initially brainstorming the visual communication for this piece, our editorial and design teams came together to discuss the differences between the two concepts, realizing that such intangible concepts would be uniquely difficult to illustrate. Instead, we keyed in on the idea of juxtaposing the two concepts of “mess” and “magic” and set forth to find art that would relay those concepts in a clear and striking yet simplified way. We think this compilation of stock art is used in such a way creates the right high concept abstracted illustration we were hoping for. The concepts of juxtaposition continue with the strong contrast of black and white (image versus white space of pages) and balanced composition of imagery on the interior pages of the story.
