Entry Essay:
The field of elementary and secondary school leadership is full of dilemmas – challenging situations that regularly arise that do not lend themselves to easy answers or solutions. That serves as the rationale behind School Administrator magazine’s monthly Ethical Educator column.
Ethical Educator always begins with a real-world scenario, tightly worded to avoid identifying the actual places or people involved. The succinct writeup sets up the dilemma for our four panelists with experience in educational leadership who share their individual analyses with us on how the school leader at the center of the case ought to respond most appropriately.
Our ethics column works best when those panelists do not agree on the best way to proceed, which happens regularly. These are dilemmas, after all.
Our entry includes ethical dilemmas appearing in three consecutive installments of this column – from the September, October and November 2025 issues of School Administrator, which is the monthly magazine of AASA, The School Superintendents Association. The magazine mostly reaches school superintendents and their cabinet members.
