Entry Essay:
Published since 1880 by The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Mechanical Engineering identifies emerging technologies and trends and explores their impact as they transform industries and workforce. It delivers a perspective on the role of engineering and technology advances in the world and on our lives. The magazine is at the core of ASME's content strategy and ecosystem, featuring content that helps engineers understand and solve challenges in a constantly evolving technology landscape.
After 145 years in print, Mechanical Engineering made the transition in January 2025 to become a fully digital publication. We chose to use a new online platform to house the magazine to ensure that its look and feel remained consistent with the ME brand and most importantly, to make sure that it still feels like a magazine.
Each online issue showcases a wide range of content. At the heart of these issues are the two in-depth features that provide our audience with an extensive look at specific topics, innovations, or challenges that matter to engineers, from the possible impacts of drones on jet engines to new engineers graduating into a possible recession, to the promise of nuclear fusion as a power source. We also include expert insights, profiles, and even an interactive quiz, all of which combine to provide a cohesive snapshot of engineering and technology issues that are relevant to engineers, while embracing the new digital platform's capabilities.
Each issue's news section highlights cutting-edge engineering research to help inspire and inform our readership. Other staple departments include career development, an infographic and a technology roundup, plus expert-written columns and a video that either profiles one of ASME's leaders or members, or showcases an innovative technology or engineering solution. We also have a monthly article from our partners at Engineering for Change, an online platform for innovators working to solve problems in sustainable global development (ASME is a founding partner of E4C).
As an exclusive members-only magazine, we also provide our members with updates the Society's latest activities, a profile of a current member, and even a look back into ME magazine vault with an article from a past issue, often going back decades. Even though ME is an association publication intended for members only, all articles are prepared with strictest journalistic standards and editorial integrity, all coordinated by our small team of four.
