Entry Essay:
Trade Show Executive Media Group (TSE) provides a monthly magazine and daily digital content to professionals in the trade show industry. A majority of the readership are managers, directors, executive and C-suite level professionals that produce large-scale events, at both for-profit companies and associations. Suppliers, which include general services contractors and convention centers/venues, also subscribe to receive our content.
Each month, Trade Show Executive (TSE) features a senior leader in the industry in our Power Lunch article. The purpose of the Power Lunch and its Q&A format is to give the larger audience a fireside chat-style interview with a professional they may not have the opportunity to have access to easily. By having a majority of the article be in the voice of the interview subject, TSE can give readers a feeling that they’re in a one-to-one conversation with this executive, as they share their career journeys and priorities for their show or business in their own voice.
In the December edition of TSE magazine, we feature Chuck Grouzard, Executive Vice President Business Development in North America at GES, one of the industry’s biggest general services contractors. At the time of publication, Grouzard was stepping into his new role of Chair for the 2025 term at the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), one of the trade show industry’s most prominent and influential associations. The timing coincided with IAEE’s annual event, Expo! Expo!, further solidifying the relevance of Grouzard’s interview, since the formal passing of the baton occurs at the event.
The year 2024 saw big changes for IAEE, with a new CEO who also marked the first female CEO in the association’s history, and a longtime staff member retiring from their position. The industry also saw more collaboration between associations, who often are viewed as competitors for membership and sponsorship, when it came to advocacy and overarching efforts for workforce development and information sharing — all very new things for these organizations.
By interviewing Grouzard at the end of the year, TSE was able to elicit some of these changes and share how IAEE plans to build upon them in the coming year, while also getting a sneak peek at some of the priorities of the association that so many of our readers are members of ahead of the annual event. We were also able to talk about industry hot topics, like workforce development and community-building at shows through the questions focused on Grouzard’s duties at GES, giving readers both a broad and focused perspective on industry trends in the same article — and sending them into 2025 with the knowledge of what is coming next for such a major organization like IAEE.
