Description of the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
The United States is facing a charging challenge. The Biden administration, environmental regulators, and the auto industry are looking to phase out combustion engine cars and replace them with electric vehicles. But to do that, the nation needs to quickly replace the convenience created by more than a century of gas stations with electric vehicle chargers. Without that, there is no hope of reaching the federal government’s goal for zero-emission vehicles to make up half of new vehicle sales by 2030. There’s one big hitch – not enough specially trained electricians to fix the thousands of broken chargers across the company. Without working chargers, consumers won’t have the confidence to drive EVs. Automotive News reporter Hannah Lutz looked at this issue in her Oct. 10 report: Wanted: Electricians to fix thousands of broken EV chargers. Lutz explains the reasons behind this shortage and the industry’s struggles to fill the gap. She was out front drilling down into why there are so many broken chargers and they aren’t getting fixed promptly.
