A decade ago, Moderna was a small startup little known outside of the biotechnology industry. Today, the company is a household name. While its rise was exceptional, its journey is one that scores of emerging drugmakers embark on each year — an engine of entrepreneurship that leads to new medicines and vaccines.

This year, BioPharma Dive set out to document the industrious ecosystem supporting biotech startups, from the investors who back them to the scientists and executives who lead them. Senior Editor Benjamin Fidler conceptualized, pitched and launched a weekly newsletter that has, in just 20 issues, attracted more than 6,000 subscribers in the industry.

Launched in July 2022, the Emerging Biotech Weekly newsletter covers the startups launching and raising money, the venture firms betting on the next research breakthrough and the pharmaceutical companies hoping to strike a deal with the next Moderna.

Each week, Fidler and Reporter Gwendolyn Wu break down hotspots of research activity via comprehensive overviews and bring expert perspectives straight to readers via Q&As with top leaders in the sector. Issues contain a gamut of stories, regular charts illustrating trends in IPOs and financing, and editor’s notes from Fidler and Wu.

Through the new Emerging Biotech newsletter, readers are given a window into an influential corner of the industry and the people who help shape it.
