In a year of inflation not seen in decades, I wanted to cover the topic of rising costs in a way that would be unique to our readers. After discussing it with Phillip Perry, a frequent contributor to tED, we came up with an angle:

Why should our readers care about inflation, which is rising faster than any time in recent memory? Because rising costs can eat away at the bottom line, making the right moves now can help obviate cashflow crunches in the months ahead...but deciding just what steps are the right ones can be complicated by supply chain disruptions.

We planned a story that would cover the following topics:
1. Why rising inflation threatens profits
2. The importance of proactively managing cashflow
3. Steps to accelerate receipts
4. Engaging on a deeper level with customers and suppliers
5. The dangers of stretching payables
6. Avoiding violations of variable loan covenants
7. Trimming inventory prudently
8. Raising prices without ruffling feathers

Mr. Perry reached out to several sources—both inside and outside electrical distributors—for answers. He also included a 10-point quiz readers can take to assess how well they are prepared to battle inflation.
