In August 2021, the ABA released its third annual “Profile of the Legal Profession,” consisting of data tracking various statistical markers relating to lawyers and the legal profession, including number of lawyers nationwide, geographic location, wages, demographics and employment. This cover story examines the effect COVID-19 did, or did not have, on the legal industry and analyzes data from ABA surveys and outside organizations to provide context. Why did some law firms have record-breaking financial performances during a time of such upheaval and disruption?
