The home building industry lacks a uniform approach in its preparedness for America’s growing fleet of electric vehicles. In “Shifting Gears,” Joe Bousquin notes that the drive to electrify EVs will be won or lost in the single-family garage and questions whether builders’ new homes are ready. Many in the industry agree that prewiring homes for EV chargers makes sense and saves money; however, that’s not all the charging infrastructure will require. Builders and other stakeholders will need to get on the same page to ensure the nation’s electrical grid can handle the demand.
