BioPharma Dive published its first story on coronavirus vaccine development on January 27, 2020 when Johnson & Johnson became the first large pharmaceutical company to publicly announce a research program.

BioPharma Dive’s coverage since then has been consumed by the historic race by scientists around the world to cram the work of years into mere months — work that yielded several protective vaccines in record time. Through scores of stories on each step forward and a comprehensive tracker that’s drawn more than half a million page views in the process, and live updates watching FDA meetings on the vaccine, the BioPharma Dive website has been at the forefront of information on the vaccine’s progress.

But as the publication’s remit is to cover the breadth of the biotech and pharma industries - the team also covered 2020’s major news in Alzheimer's, gene therapy and cancer research, the challenges facing children with a rare muscle disease, and the hopes of patients with hemophilia for a one-time treatment.
