Description of the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
No industry has been immune to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic; however, because security crosses sectors, borders, and cyberspace, the Security Management team has been diligently tracking the potential ramifications of the virus since January, providing timely coverage online and more in-depth reporting through a variety of print articles and research.
“Infectious diseases know no borders,” Managing Editor Claire Meyer wrote in her March article, and similarly the magazine’s coverage has looked across countries and industries to present readers with a truly global perspective. Articles tracked lateral threats that stemmed from the pandemic, such as in Megan Gates’s June article outlining an increase in coronavirus cyber scams, and Meyer’s August and October pieces on different threat actors taking advantage of businesses’ and organizations’ responses to the crisis. Lastly, Sara Mosqueda reported in December how different industry security leaders were adapting business travel policies and leveraging psychology to protect employees and clients while curbing the future spread of the coronavirus. These articles were written so that the situations, solutions, and philosophies used by organizations and individuals can be understood by anyone, whether they are security professionals or not.
These subjects were chosen based on the team’s collective knowledge—gathered through interviews, attending conferences, research, and keeping up with other media coverage. Information from these sources was analyzed and processed to present readers with a better understanding of the dynamic between the consequences of the pandemic and the security industry.
