Description of the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
BioPharma Dive has closely covered the development of coronavirus vaccines and treatments since the industry’s first response to the pandemic in January 2020.
Over scores of stories, the BioPharma Dive team delivered in-depth reporting on the decision-making of biotech companies like Moderna and Gilead, as well as major pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson. They have interviewed executives, top researchers, and the academic scientists they worked alongside in the race to rapidly prove experimental COVID-19 drugs and vaccines.
A backbone of the coverage is a comprehensive tracker of the most advanced or well-funded vaccines in testing (and for some, now approved.) It lays out their development timelines, funding and target supply, giving a unique overview of the details our readers need to know most. Since initially launched in June, the tracker has logged more than half a million page views.
With the world’s attention on COVID-19, many major national publications have dedicated substantial reporting to coronavirus vaccines and treatments. BioPharma Dive’s advantage is a deep understanding of clinical trials, expertise used to thoroughly analyze results and explain what they mean.
The team capped reporting this year with live coverage of two critical meetings of Food and Drug Administration advisers to support vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna. And when both vaccines were subsequently authorized, the team in-depth stories ready to go.
