Please describe the publication's mission and readership:
Now in its 15th year, SecurityInfoWatch.com is the leading B2B news portal for security industry professionals. Our readers run the gamut: from small, independent alarm dealer business owners and installers, to security integration business owners, to chief security officers for some of the world’s largest corporations, along with the vendors, manufacturers and service providers who serve our industry.
Having such a broad swath of readers makes it imperative for the website to develop original content that not only pertains to these individual audience segments and the business challenges they face on a daily basis, but also on the various technology trends that impact the industry as a whole. Editorial content on SecurityInfoWatch includes in-depth features, breaking security-related news coverage, industry analysis, press releases and security product/equipment information.
Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
Like many industries, physical security has been so inundated with marketing jargon in recent years that it has become hard to decipher between terms that have real meaning to professionals who work in the market everyday and those that are just “buzzwords” to create hype around a particular product or service. A perfect example of this is Artificial Intelligence or AI, for short, which has been used ad nauseam by a variety of vendors to tout the advanced analytical features that their hardware or software provides to end-users. The fact is that AI means different things to different people and educating readers on what terms like this mean, along with their implications for the industry as whole, is the goal of “Real Words or Buzzwords.” Written by longtime contributor and security consultant Ray Bernard, the column series explores a variety of topics like this on a bi-weekly basis on SecurityInfoWatch.com.
