DWM is the largest trade publication serving the door and window industry specifically. Our editorial content is targeted to readers’ unique needs, such as market developments and trends, energy efficiency, changing energy and building codes, and how to compete in an increasingly competitive environment, among many others.

Thanks to massive demographic changes and shifting educational values, the door and window industry is in the midst of a severe labor shortage. DWM explored the issue in depth in our June/July 2015 issue. Backed by a wealth of statistics and multiple interviews, editor Trey Barrineau crafted a compelling portrait of how the industry got into this quagmire – and he provided possible solutions for getting out of it. Graphic artist Saundra Hutchison's strong designs captured the idea of “vanishing workers” by removing them from their work environments. This entailed literally cropping them out of photographs, and using empty silhouettes with our infographics to convey their absence. Coupled with convincing statistics about employee shortfalls, the goal was to show how their absence is affecting the industry. The story drew immediate praise from the industry. For example, Rick Ilmberger of Suncoast Glass & Mirror, Inc., in Port Charlotte, Fla., a member of the National Association of Home Builders, a board member for the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA) and a trustee for our Future Builders of America Program, sent this e-mail to DWM: "I wanted to commend you and Trey Barrineau on the article 'Where Have All the Workers Gone.' You hit the nail on the head. ... We are in the same position, in that we are in dire need of skilled laborers/technicians in the construction Industry." Ilmberger requested a PDF of the article to share with all members of the FHBA
