This multimedia article by author Gideon Fink Shapiro delves into a topic that is probably on a lot of people’s minds since Sept. 11: Just how safe is the new One World Trade Center tower that now sits at the base of what used to be the Twin Towers in lower Manhattan? Anchoring the story of not only the safety of the new tower, but also how it is being used as a model for high-rise construction going forward, is Shapiro’s in-depth reporting and interviews. Adding to this is a series of video interviews with professionals who worked on the design of the new tower, gifs of people using the new space, and interactive illustrations that break down the building at its important safety features as you scroll through and read along.
