Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
In 2018, BUILDER covered many issues impacting U.S. home builders’ ability to construct affordable, efficient, and well-designed housing.
The right building products can make or break a home sale, and we focused on them cover to cover in April, providing information on 80-plus of the newest and best wares for builders. The issue also highlights the trend of mixing metal finishes, looks at the oft-heated debate of showers vs. tubs, goes behind the scenes at experience centers for building products, and includes proprietary research on builders’ brand preferences across 51 product categories.
May features the industry’s most prized rankings: The Builder 100 and Next 100 lists of the country’s top builders by closings. The cover story offers an in-depth look at the list’s No. 2 firm just after it merged with another public builder—the biggest M&A deal in home building history. A second story examines the lingering effects of the housing crash, profiling builders who not only survived it but also thrived. Also included is our annual public builder report card, with grades coming from performance in four categories: financial, land, operations, and sales and marketing.
The June cover touts our roundup of best pickups for the jobsite. We also zero in on the top new-home markets in the country for millennial home buyers, and look at developers using man-made waterways to transform landlocked master planned communities. A hard-hitting look at public builder CEO pay rankings is included, in addition to insight on California’s solar mandates for 2020.
