Storage magazine is a monthly online-only (also available as a PDF download) publication that keeps IT and storage managers up to date on new storage technologies, and how those techs can meet emerging business requirements. Storage experts and staff writers create the content, providing objective insight and analysis to help IT pros stay up to date and gain perspective into the technology they use every day. The site also helps them understand emerging technologies. SearchStorage's core readers are storage professionals, although the audience also includes IT professionals in related technology areas, such as cloud computing, data center management, data management and data protection, as well as business professionals who have an interest in storage and data management.

Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:

Storage magazine’s annual Products of the Year issue is the most comprehensive competition recognizing the best in data storage for enterprises across five distinct categories: storage arrays, storage management tools, software-defined/cloud storage, backup and disaster recovery hardware and backup and disaster recovery software. Analysts, consultants, users and staff editors/writers judge products on innovation, performance, ease of integration, usability, manageability, functionality and value. It also stands out because it only accepts recently released or significantly upgraded products. This levels the playing field between startups and larger, more established brands to the benefit of readers. The February 2018 issue, like all issues of Storage, is also chock full of practical information storage professionals and enterprises can put to use right off the page. For example, it presents an overview of the European Union’s stringent General Data Protection Regulation, explaining the dangers of non-compliance and what to do to get in compliance. The January 2018 issue, meanwhile, examines the rise and benefits of software-defined storage and the best ways to put it to use. It looks to the future by presenting an overview of eight startups set to disrupt the storage market, laying out a number of transformational data storage trends that will impact our readership, explaining how new classes of persistent storage-class memory will revolutionize data centers, and noting how tape and disk will remain important tools in the storage admin’s arsenal despite the development of non-volatile memory express technology that better takes advantage of the performance benefits of flash storage.
