Scotsman Guide Media’s mission is to be the leading media provider of resources and tools for the mortgage-origination industry. In addition to serving as an outlet for uniquely organized mortgage-product-search tools, our monthly Scotsman Guide commercial edition provides free educational materials to enhance the productivity and success of mortgage professionals nationwide.

In addition to news-based, staff-generated content, we also publish educational articles submitted by mortgage professionals. All pieces are approved by our editorial committee, fact-checked and edited independent of outside influence. Submissions must be original, be previously unpublished and not appear in another publication for six months after printing in our magazine or on scotsmanguide.com. There is no cost or payment involved, and all editorial decisions are made free of advertising guidance. Editorial guidelines apply to content in print editions, on scotsmanguide.com and in digital communications.

Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:

With our focus on the financial side of real estate, it would be easy to use the same stock images of businesspeople, handshakes and dollar signs that permeate the financial press. Scotsman Guide strives to go beyond this overused imagery. With each original, commissioned illustration, we aim to show readers something new that entices the eye while accurately representing its companion article.

This layout is bold and bright, and it is designed to grab the attention of the readers. Simple icons and complementary colors make the page pop, and allow for the text to be easily read on the large-format page.

We try to create unique designs for all of our lead articles so that they stand out and help make the content attractive. Although the visual icons used in this design are simple -- they are easily identified and tie in to the article, and are meant to lighten the day.
