Business Jet Traveler
Issue date (if applicable):
Publication name: Business Jet Traveler
Publishing company: AIN Publications
Website home page: www.bjtonline.com
Please describe the publication's mission and readership:
Since we launched Business Jet Traveler in 2003, the magazine has attracted a worldwide audience of corporate and private aircraft users who rely on us to help them maximize their investment in non-commercial air transportation. Each issue features a wide variety of service copy, including reviews of new and used aircraft and reports on the state of the preowned market plus advice about taxes, financing, insurance, aircraft selection, cabin electronics, and more—all from a passenger’s perspective. Annually, we publish results of our reader survey about business jet travelers’ experiences with aircraft, manufacturers, and service providers. We also offer considerable non-aviation content that appeals to our jet-enabled subscribers, including articles on vacation destinations, reviews of luxury cars, personal-finance coverage, and interviews with such prominent business jet travelers as Sir Richard Branson, John Travolta, Penn & Teller, William Shatner, Buzz Aldrin, Suze Orman, and Francis Ford Coppola.
Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
Business Jet Traveler, which we redesigned and resized in 2015, continues to deliver on the mission statement that has appeared on our cover since we launched the magazine in 2003: “maximizing your investment in private air transport.” At the same time, we offer a good deal of non-aviation content that appeals to our jet-enabled subscribers. As the three issues included with this entry demonstrate, we have attracted first-rate writing talent, such as Joe Sharkey, who covered business travel for the New York Times for 16 years; Chana Schoenberger, who has been an editor at Forbes and the Wall Street Journal; and Robert Kiener, a longtime Reader’s Digest editor/staff writer. We regularly feature extensive interviews with leading business jet travelers, including, in the entered issues, MTV cofounder Bob Pittman, billionaire entrepreneur John Paul DeJoria, and entertainer Paul Anka. We also publish results of an extensive annual survey of our readers’ experiences with aircraft, aircraft manufacturers, and services providers (see Oct./Nov. issue). In addition, as the three submitted issues demonstrate, we feature car reviews, commentary, personal-finance guidance, reports on aviation equipment and safety, and more. And our audience likes what we offer: according to a recent independently conducted Readex study, 81 percent of our subscribers read at least half of every issue and 42 percent read “all or almost all” of each edition.
