Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
The electrical contractors on EC&M’s 2015 Top 50 electrical contractors list experienced an explosion of new opportunities as the market continued on its road to recovery. This article takes an in-depth look at the business boom many contractors are enjoying and explores the hottest markets as well as new opportunities in niche growth markets. To prepare for this special report, the EC&M staff surveyed the nation’s largest electrical contracting firms. The answers were then compiled and analyzed in order to rank the firms by overall electrical and datacom services revenue and also reveal the factors that helped or hindered growth. The EC&M Top 50 article requires extensive research and analysis. Months ahead of publication, questions for the proprietary survey are carefully compiled, and then the survey is sent to several hundred of the nation’s largest electrical contracting firms, which populate a growing database specific to the EC&M survey process. The survey answers are meticulously analyzed and transformed into colorful graphics to illustrate the piece. Specific firms are contacted for interviews that support and explain their survey answers. The article also demands soliciting high-resolution images of important projects completed by participating firms. The original research EC&M conducts on behalf of the Top 50 has become an invaluable resource for consultants, manufacturers, and electrical design and contracting firms. They use it as a guide to measure the current business climate, determine the key players in the industry, and analyze what trends will drive the market for the coming year.
