HR Magazine has the largest circulation of any human resources publication in the world. It covers business, legal, and management trends relevant to human resource professionals and profiles leaders in the field. As the flagship publication for the Society for Human Resource Management, it is distributed to more than 275,000 members in over 160 countries. The readers of HR Magazine are primarily HR professionals in the for-profit sector, but also include government and non-profit professionals, as well as top executives, consultants, academics, employment lawyers and others.
Our goal is to provide timely, engaging and useful content that will enable those working in HR at any level to do their jobs better and advance in their careers. Our feature articles are in-depth, multi-source analyses of current trends that go beyond simply quoting experts to interpreting what they say—along with relevant research and information on new technology, products or job market trends—and providing practical, easy-to-follow steps that our readers can apply to their own work.
The magazine is distributed 10 times per year to all SHRM members as well as a small group of non-member subscribers. It is available in print, digital, online and mobile formats.
Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
Studies on the aging labor force have largely focused on the skills gap left by the retiring Baby Boomers, the so-called brain drain of institutional knowledge. But another kind of brain strain may also be confronting employers as America’s labor force ages, and older adults opt to stay on the job longer. In this feature article in the September 2015 HR Magazine, which is distributed to more than 275,000 human resources professionals around the world, we explore the delicate issue of addressing cognitive impairment in the workplace—ranging from mild forgetfulness to full-blown Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. The article provides practical and compassionate guidance for HR professionals on how to identify cognitive impairment, offer accommodations to affected workers, and, if needed, handle termination with care. It includes real-life examples of workers who have confronted early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and the HR professionals who partnered with them to keep them on the job as long as possible.
