Computerworld identifies, unpacks and offers guidance about the most pressing management and technology challenges facing IT and business technology leaders, as well as the latest personal technologies and trends. Computerworld is outspoken and authoritative, and relies on the hard-won insights of the IT users it champions to offer readers behind-the-scenes examples of how organizations implement technology, manage projects and personnel, and adapt to IT change.
Computerworld.com posts dozens of stories by staff reporters, feature writers and bloggers each week, delivering a wide range of breaking news, features, analysis, videos, image galleries, RSS feeds, research and resource materials, as well as premium content for registered "Insider" readers. Our website, updated continually during the business week and when major news breaks after-hours and on weekends, also includes stories from the IDG News Service and several of our sister technology publications. Readers can also follow our stories on Twitter and on social media sites such as Facebook and Google+.
Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
The April 2016 hack into a Panamanian law firm spotlighted the shady financial dealings of some world leaders, and raised alarms because of the security failure's type and scope. This story explained what the law firm did wrong, and gave our IT readers some tips about what to ask their own outside legal counsel to ensure their data stays protected. The story also pointed out how professional services firms -- including investment advisers -- are vulnerable, and need to take a hard look at their internal processes and procedures. At the bottom of the story there's an engaging graphic -- created by Computerworld designer April Montgomery -- that shows readers the scale of the Panama leak compared to other types of security breaches including the Snowden documents.
