Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
Honoring the adventurers creating the future of a hidebound legal profession is both intense and essential. Working with nominations collected throughout the year; getting ideas from news stories that appeared in the ABA Journal and online at ABAJournal.com, and scouring other news and technology sources, the staff came up with another 10 leaders who are pushing the envelope of law practice. Seeking diversity in gender, race, geography and business approach, our full reporting staff’s interviews with the 2016 Legal Rebels spotlighted innovations for, among other areas, corporate law departments and online research, online courtrooms and artificial intelligence. Teasers appear in the print magazine and full profiles are posted online throughout the month of September. And our designer created a way, with a fold-out cover, to put all our honorees behind a Legal Rebels surfboard, no matter where they happened to be. The Legal Rebels project expanded in this the eighth year to include legal pioneers whose work began before the project itself began. Our Legal Rebels Trailblazers podcasts share the knowledge gained by these legal professionals in areas including cybersecurity, legal research, courtroom technology and U.S. Supreme Court decisions. In addition to regular podcasts, legal analysis focused on a changing profession continues throughout the year at the New Normal blog.
