Please describe the enterprising work that went into this entry and its significance or impact on readers:
In each Comment article, Editor-in-Chief Elizabeth Donoff objectively addresses pressing issues facing the lighting community. The three submitted explore issues – attracting the next generation of students to study lighting design, how to preserve lighting’s masterworks before they are destroyed or demolished, and is a lighting design detail something that should be patented -- that have assumed increased urgency as the lighting community grapples with its place in the broader spectrum of architecture and design, along with technology evolutions, and new players entering the industry. In analyzing these topics, Donoff proposes a way forward that the lighting community might consider as they confront the changing nature of their profession. The column asks the critical questions that members of the lighting community need to address. Readers tell us that they look to this column as a guide to what is happening in the lighting community and it serves as a reference point by which they can evaluate the industry’s important issues.
